John Suarez

If any event exemplifies the perverse essence of the Castro brothers’ gangster regime, the sinking of the “13 de Marzo” tugboat in July 1994 would undoubtedly be one of the most infamous, despite the long list of crimes committed by Cuba’s communist dictatorship.

Communist Cuba underwent its fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on November 15, 2023, at the UN Human Rights Council, a process Havana repeatedly subverted since 2009 by using front groups to drown out critical human rights reports by established human rights organizations.

On July 11, 2021, nationwide protests across Cuba marked a before and after point in the island’s history. Tragically, the free world failed to support the Cuban people against the regime’s onslaught. John Suarez argues that it may not be too late to do the right thing.
