VOC Supports Vigil for J11 Victims in Cuba

On July 10th, the Center for Free Cuba, with the support of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, hosted a vigil in front of the Cuban Embassy as a sign of protest for the political prisoners of the July 11, 2021 protests in Cuba, and many other victims of the Cuban regime. Over the years, many have suffered at the hands of Cuban communist leaders. Activists Harold Cepero and Oswaldo Payá were killed in a car crash and the Cuban regime has not taken responsibility. Thirty-five men, women, and children were lost at sea in a tugboat, in 1994, that sank after an attack from 3 other vessels acting under Cuban regime’s instructions. Twenty of the male survivors were imprisoned. More than 1,000 current political prisoners are being tortured daily.

The vigil ended with a prayer for the souls of those that have lost their lives in the hands of communism around the world, and a plea for the freedom of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

In an op-ed from VOC’s Hernán Alberro, he reflects on the Cuban people’s cry for freedom, as the world commemorates the anniversary of the July 11, 2021 protests in Cuba.
