Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom Presentation

On May 29, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation was honored to formally present the 2019 Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom, awarded to the late Kornel Morawiecki, to his son and former Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki.

Kornel Morawiecki was a physicist who resisted communism, founding an offshoot of the Solidarity movement, Fighting Solidarity, and publishing an underground newspaper. After the fall of communism, he served in the Polish Sejm and continued to champion democracy and human rights. Morawiecki passed away in 2019, but his legacy lives on.

The Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom, VOC’s top honor, was bestowed upon Kornel Morawiecki for his lifelong commitment to freedom and democracy, and opposition to communism and all other forms of tyranny. VOC President and CEO Dr. Eric Patterson presented the award to Kornel Morawiecki’s son during his recent trip to Poland.
