Governor DeSantis Signs Legislation to Enhance FL’s Education Standards on the Evils of Communism

On April 17, 2024, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation (SB 1264) that strengthens Florida’s education standards, which require teaching on the dangers and evils of Communism.

The Governor noted that, “we will not allow our students to live in ignorance, nor be indoctrinated by Communist apologists in schools. To the contrary, we will ensure students in Florida are taught the truth about the evils and dangers of Communism.”

VOC has been proud to work with the state of Florida over the years, to bolster education about communism in its schools.

On May 9, 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that designates November 7 as “Victims of Communism Memorial Day” in remembrance of and honoring those who have died and suffered under communist regimes.

On November 7, 2023, Victims of Communism Day, the Portraits in Patriotism curriculum was released which mandates the study of communism and other forms of totalitarian rule. VOC helped to produce a series of witness interviews for their K-12 programming which will be used in classrooms across the state and seen by millions of students.
