VOC Museum Hosts Lecture on East German Forced Labor

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with the Union of Victims’ Associations of Communist Tyranny (UOKG), held a lecture and discussion this Tuesday, March 4th at the VOC Museum on East German forced labor.

The discussion examined popular supermarket ALDI’s historical supply chain and the documented use of forced labor by GDR political prisoners in the production of goods imported from East Germany. The findings were presented by Peter Keup, a former political prisoner of the GDR and distinguished research fellow at the UOKG. He spoke on his personal experience in an East German prison and how the supply chains of the past impact us today.

VOC was honored to partner with a fellow PEMC member to preserve the memory of European history and the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes.
