House of Representatives Passes Resolution Condemning Socialism
On November 21, the United States House of Representatives passed H. Con. Res. 58, a resolution denouncing the horrors of socialism.
“The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation applauds the passage of this much-needed resolution in the House and looks forward to its consideration in the Senate,” said Dr. Eric Patterson, President and CEO of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. “This is a monumental victory in the fight against communism, socialism, and all of Marx’s evil ideas. Calling out the failures of socialism is especially important today, as recent elections show that America is leaning toward the siren call of this deadly ideology. That is why this resolution, and the work of VOC, is so important.”
The resolution outlines some of the most brutal crimes committed by socialist regimes in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela, demonstrating that socialism always leads to poverty, oppression, and starvation. “Socialism is a lie. It has never delivered justice or equality, only fear, censorship, poverty, and broken nations,” said resolution author Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (FL-27). “I represent thousands of families who fled their homelands because socialist regimes promised paradise and delivered prisons. Today, the House is making it clear: we will not allow socialism’s failed ideology to take root in the United States.”
“As a witness of communism, growing up in Soviet-occupied Ukraine, I understand all too well what happens when the false promise of socialism comes to power, said Karina Lipsman, Director of Government Relations at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. “America must learn from the mistakes of the past. We can never let socialism take root at home. Our very way of life depends on this fight. That’s why VOC works every day to educate about the crimes of communism and the heroes who fight for freedom.”
The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is dedicated to educating new generations about the ideology, history, and deadly legacy of communism. VOC is filling a void in education by writing curricula, training teachers, and speaking on middle school, high school, and college campuses.
