Call for Applications: Communications Associate Director

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC) is seeking a Communications Associate Director to lead media relations and marketing. The Communications Associate Director will report to the Director of Communications and work with the Digital Media Manager to capture, promote, and market VOC’s mission and work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with VOC’s Director of Communications and Digital Media Manager to promote the organization’s mission. Responsibilities include:

  • Promote VOC and the Museum with the media.
  • Conduct media outreach and communication.
  • Work directly with senior and executive staff to develop, refine, produce, and publicize all outward facing content, digital products, and messaging for all VOC departments.
  • Ensure VOC capitalizes on all opportunities (major news, world events, and anniversaries or important dates in history) for communication with the media and public.
  • Marketing, booking, and placement of VOC experts, events, products, and the museum.
  • Copywriting and editing of VOC communications materials, including press releases, editorials, and newsletters.  
  • Managing VOC’s social media platforms.
  • Curating VOC’s websites with event listings, blog posts, op-eds, and press releases. 
  • Developing and running targeted advertisements as well as promotions.
  • Managing all VOC Universe email send-outs for the organization.
  • Tracking VOC media mentions, impact, and social media engagement statistics.

Desired Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required to interface effectively with all levels of staff and the public.
  • Must possess a rolodex of media contacts or an interest in building a robust network of relationships with members of the media.  
  • Experience with copywriting and graphic design.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented, precise, reliable, and proactive.
  • Must be able to excel in a multicultural, fast-paced work environment and be able to effectively shift priorities and multi-task.
  • The ideal candidate is energetic, flexible, and a team-player that thrives in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of responsibilities.

Location: This position is in-person. Candidates are required to live in the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area. VOC employees get one remote day per week, per the employee handbook.

Pay Scale: Commensurate on experience.

Hours: Monday – Friday (9:00am – 5:30pm)
