Richard Pipes, Ph.D.
Dr. Richard Pipes (1923-2018) was a world-renowned historian on the Russian Revolution the Soviet Union. He was the Frank B. Baird, Jr. Professor of History, Emeritus, at Harvard University. In the 1970s, Pipes led a CIA-commissioned examination of Soviet weapons levels, and in 1981 was appointed National Security Council advisor on Soviet affairs to President Ronald Reagan. He wrote or edited 28 books and was the recipient of many honors, including the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom in 2009.
