Rep. Steny Hoyer
Steny Hoyer is a current congressman from Maryland who was the Chair and Ranking Democrat on the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Commission), championing the cause of human rights, individual freedoms, democracy, and religious liberties throughout the world. He called for decisive U.S. and NATO action to stop atrocities in the former Yugoslavia. In 2009, he was awarded the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom.
