Rep. John Shimkus
Representative John Shimkus is a Republican Representative from Illinois’ 15th District. He attained a B.S. in general engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1980, as well as an M.A. in business administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Prior to his election, he served in the U.S. Army for over five years in active duty, then entered the Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2008. Representative Shimkus serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he chairs the Environment Subcommittee, as well as on the Subcommittees on Energy, Health, and Communications and Technology. In 2004, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation awarded him the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom.
