The Hon. Philip M. Crane
The Honorable Philip M. Crane (1930-2014) was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois for more than 30 years. A member of the Conservative Caucus, he strongly condemned, along with his fellow members, the shooting down of Korean Air flight 007 by the Soviets. He rejected the SALT II treaty, believing that national security and the defense of the U.S. people was not a negotiable subject. He easily won his election to the House by campaigning on a platform that involved severing trade with communist countries and block aid to nations that attempted to trade with communist nations. In 2002, he received the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom.
