The Hon. Lev E. Dobriansky
The Honorable Lev E. Dobriansky (1918-2008) was a former U.S. Ambassador and prominent anti-communist advocate who helped to co-found the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and served as its first Chairman. He wrote the 1959 Captive Nations Resolution and testified in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee regarding Nikita Khrushchev’s role in Stalin’s crimes against the Ukrainian people. He also founded and served on the National Captive Nations Committee. Following Congressional authorization in 1993, Dobriansky co-founded the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and aided in the fundraising and construction of its namesake Memorial to the victims of communism. In 2005, he was awarded the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom.
