The Hon. János Horváth, Ph.D.

The Honorable Dr. János Horváth (1921-2019) was a Hungarian professor, economist, and former Member of Parliament, having at different times been both the youngest and oldest sitting member of the Hungarian National Assembly. In 1944, he fought against the fascist Arrow Cross regime and was sentenced to death by the Gestapo. In 1956, he participated in the anti-Soviet Hungarian revolutionary government and fled after the USSR invaded. Horváth returned to Hungary after the fall of communism and served in the National Assembly for 16 years. Horváth was a member of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation International Advisory Council and recipient of the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom in 2007.
