H.E. Philip Dimitrov
His Excellency Philip Dimitrov is a Bulgarian lawyer, politician, and diplomat. He was a coordinating member of the Union of Democratic Forces, a reformist coalition that opposed the Communist Party. In 1991, post-communist Bulgaria held its first democratic election, where Dimitrov became Prime Minister. During his tenure, he oversaw a series of democratic and free-market reforms and improved integration into Western Europe. Since then, he has served as the Bulgarian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1997 to 1998, and Ambassador to the United States from 1998 to 2002. He is currently a member of the UDF Executive Council. In 1999, Dimitrov was awarded the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom.
