VOC Calls for the Immediate Release of Rafael Tudares
Venezuelan President-elect Edmundo González Urrutia’s son-in-law, Rafael Tudares, was abducted by the Maduro regime on Tuesday, January 7. En route to drop off his children at school, Tudares was intercepted, forced into another vehicle, and then driven away. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
“Rafael has committed no crime—his only offense is being the son-in-law of President-elect Edmundo González Urrutia,” said the ConVzla Presidential Campaign. Unfortunately, it seems that no act of repression is off limits for dictator Nicolás Maduro who refuses to step down after losing an election in which the Venezuelan people renounced socialism.
“This brazen kidnapping is yet another reminder that the Venezuelan people are being held hostage by a dictator who will do anything to stay in power,” said VOC President and CEO Dr. Eric Patterson. “The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation condemns this brutal act of repression by the Maduro regime and calls for the immediate release of Rafael Tudares, and all other political prisoners currently being held in Venezuela.”
The international community must urgently condemn this kidnapping and the continued intimidation tactics of the Maduro regime. The Venezuelan people have spoken. The results of the election must be respected.
