Trần Văn Bá
Trần Văn Bá (1945-1985) was a Vietnamese dissident and freedom fighter who was arrested and executed on charges of treason and intent to overthrow the government. After his father was killed by the Việt Minh in 1966, Trần Văn Bá left Vietnam to study in France. He returned to Vietnam in 1980, and joined the United Front of the Vietnamese Patriotic Liberation Forces as part of his attempt to oust the government. In September 1984, he was arrested while attempting to enter the country by sea as part of a group of the United Front and charged with treason and operating as part of a spy organization. He was sentenced to death and shortly after executed in January 1985. In 2007, he was posthumously awarded the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom, which was accepted by his relatives.
