Leadership at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation continues to engage with European partners overseas such as the Platform For European Memory and Conscience. Several members of VOC, including VOC Chairman Dr. Elizabeth Spalding, attended multiple conferences in Poland and met with Polish partners to discuss initiatives to promote Polish history in the United States. At the 2023 PEMC Annual Meeting and Conference in Warsaw, Poland, Dr. Spalding spoke on “Decommunization and Transitional Justice,” focusing on the enduring legacy of communism in countries affected by this deadly ideology and the unsatisfactory settlement of crimes and restitution paid to the victims. The conference focused on Europe and its history and facilitated relationship building and dialogue with various organizations on views and solutions for remembrance, to keep the next generation informed.
