A Conversation on Political Prisoners in Venezuela

On June 20, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation hosted two panels on the human rights violations of political prisoners in Venezuela. The panels highlighted that torture is government policy in Venezuela and emphasized the importance of promoting historical memory.

The first panel included former political prisoners and victims of torture at the ”El Helicoide” detention center. The panelists addressed the issue of torture as policy.

The second panel included experts from groups that document and defend human rights, with special emphasis on political prisoners. They addressed the technical aspect of political imprisonment.

Attendees had the opportunity to experience a virtual reality simulation through the “Experiencia Realidad Helicoide.” This simulation provides context for life as a political prisoner.
