Dan Wang, Ph.D.

Wang Dan is the Founder of Dialogue China. When a student in Peking University in the 1980s, Wang Dan regularly hosted a “Democracy Salon,” and helped organize the 1989 democracy movement. He was involved in the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests and survived the Massacre, but was arrested shortly afterwards in 1991. He continued his pro-democracy activism for the next decade, and was repeatedly imprisoned, until he was released for good in 1998 due to international pressure, when he came to the United States. Wang Dan was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times, and received a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University in 2008.
