Fang Zheng
Fang Zheng was among the students cruelly overrun by army tanks during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. After he pushed a young female student to safety, a tank crushed both his legs and he lost consciousness. He recovered after both of his legs were amputated, only to have Chinese authorities deny him a passport in an attempt to silence him about what happened. He was awarded the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Human Rights Award in 2018 for his bravery.
