VICTIMS OF COMMUNISM MEMORIAL FOUNDATION APPLAUDS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LISTING NORTH KOREA AS A STATE SPONSOR OF TERRORISM

The North Korean regime has long been engaged in terrorist activity and does business other terrorist groups

The Trump administration has declared that the North Korean regime will join Iran, Syria, and Sudan on the list of foreign governments that actively sponsor terrorist activities & groups abroad.

Since the 1960’s, the regime of the Kims has tried to assassinate foreign heads of state, hijacked and bombed commercial airliners, given asylum to terrorists such as the Japanese Red Army, trafficked in weapons to criminal regimes across the world, and most recently murdered the defector Kim Jong-nam in a crowded airport using a highly toxic chemical weapon.

Our Executive Director Marion Smith offered the following statement: “We are gratified that the Trump administration is taking decisive steps to call evil by its name: communist North Korea has blatantly engaged in terrorist activity for decades.”

He added: “Not only does Kim Jong-un endanger the world through his reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons, his mafia regime has sought every opportunity to conduct or support criminal and terrorist activity in exchange for hard cash. It is in the United States’ strategic interest, and the interest of all freedom-loving nations in the world, to sanction and oppose the Kim regime in Pyongyang by any means necessary.”

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is a Washington-based, non-profit educational and human rights organization devoted to commemorating the more than 100 million victims of communism around the world and to the freedom of those still living under totalitarian regimes. VOC was authorized by an unanimous act of Congress on December 17, 1993 and signed by President Bill Clinton.
